Hi Samantha! Thanks for talking to us here at Planet Ibiza.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing a career in
the music industry?
Hi Planet Ibiza! Thanks for inviting me. I’m still working on finding the right balance, but it’s something I’ve been prioritising more recently, especially after feeling burnt out and unmotivated. For me, movement is medicine. I have a love-hate relationship with running, but it’s great for clearing my mind, and when I’m consistent, I’m far more productive when it comes to making music. I aim to eat healthy about 75% of the time, but my sweet tooth is definitely my downfall! I also try to have the occasional day where I do the bare minimum, allowing myself time to relax, watch movies, and unwind with a face mask and cup of tea. There’s always room for improvement, and I’m working on being more disciplined with my sleep routine to help with my energy levels. I’ve found that when I put my health and fitness first, my music production naturally benefits.
Can you share any upcoming projects or releases that fans can look forward To?
Absolutely! One project I’m thrilled to share is my upcoming release with Multinotes! It’s a collaboration with my friend and mentor, FOTN, and will feature a remix by the label owners Musumeci and Lehar. We’re over the moon about this release and can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
Which venues or festivals resonate with you the most, and why do they hold a special place in your heart?
Space Ibiza will always hold a special place in my heart, as I had the opportunity to play there for Carl Cox during its closing year. Another memorable venue is SASS Music Club in Vienna. It’s a recent highlight because it was my first open-to-close set, playing from 5-11am on a Sunday, which was an exciting challenge for me. On the festival front, some of my favorites are the ones I attended in my early years with friends in the UK, like Lost Village, Parklife, and Secret Garden Party. El Dorado also stands out, as it was one of the first festivals I played, performing two sets in one night—it was such a vibe! So that holds a special place in my heart for sure.
Given your experience, How do you stay innovative and keep your sound fresh in the competitive electronic music scene?
When DJ’ing, the level of freedom I have depends on the party. Some events call for the occasional crowd-pleaser, mixed with tracks that reflect my own style, giving the crowd a glimpse of what I love. Other times, I can take the liberty of playing tracks the audience didn’t even know they needed. I’m always mixing in unreleased music, which keeps my sets feeling fresh and unique. In the studio, I aim to produce tracks that are a hybrid of current sounds and something a bit forward-thinking—always relevant but a step ahead.
How do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while still meeting the demands of the industry?
I set goals for the parties I want to play at and the labels I want to release with, all with the aim of personal satisfaction and growth. I’m strategic with my releases, selecting labels that offer mainstream exposure and others that are highly respected within the scene, with the hope of opening further opportunities. My focus is on evolving without compromise—staying relevant by adapting my sound rather than changing it completely. I seek collaborations with artists who align with my vision and from whom I can learn, and I surround myself with people who provide honest feedback and the truth, even if it might not be what I want to hear.
What are some key skills or qualities that you believe are essential for success as a DJ/producer?
As a DJ, track selection and stage presence are super important. It’s all about playing tracks that people will enjoy while showing that you’re enjoying it too. The dance floor feeds off your energy, so it’s crucial to stay connected with the crowd. Imagine watching a DJ who’s static and looks miserable—it’s no fun for anyone! On the production side, resilience and commitment are key. The more time you put in, the easier the process becomes, and with every track you create, you learn something new. It’s about consistently showing up, putting in the work, and letting your skills grow with each session.
