Real Talk With HANSONIC

Spread the love

Interview by AURIS

An electronic music fan since his late teens, Hansonic is moved by a variety of electronic, progressive and organic sounds that make up the tapestry of music he compiles in his productions and DJ sets. Gregorian lyrics, Afro lyrics/beats, and Indian vocals/instruments appeal to him tremendously, but this is a constantly evolving love affair.

Hansonic, what a dynamic name! Can you share the back story of how your Artist name was birthed?

Thank you! The story behind the name is pretty simple. When I produced my first single and decided to release it, I needed an artist name to go with it. An alias. And I didn’t want it to be my legal name. So I posted my last name (Hans) to a group with my friends. And buddy Ishan instantly combined my name with the word “sonic” to produce “Hansonic.” It was simple, short, and punchy. And it just stuck!

Can you walk us through your creative process when producing a new track in the Deep House genre?

Initially, I had no process. But now, about 25 tracks in, I have a workflow I follow to the T. I love a good groove. I love drums (being a former drummer), so I always begin with that because it’s my strong point. Once I have a groove in place that makes me want to move on loop, I add everything else from atmosphere to leads, melodies, vocals, and everything else. Overtime, I’ve realized that simplicity is key. Because we’re making music at the end of the day – not building a rocket. I’ve stopped overthinking my tracks. And that’s been a big boon to my process.

Can you share any hobbies or interests outside of music that inspire your creativity as a DJ/producer?

I read a lot, I have a wide circle of diverse friends, I spend a lot of time in nature and quite literally spend half my time laughing when I’m not working and being serious. These things fuel my soul. I bring it with me into the studio.

Can you share a personal mantra or philosophy that you live by, both in your music career and personal life?

Great question! I love the phrase “state of being,” which means to check-in on yourself many times a day to see how I’m doing in the moment. I believe that my state of being determines physical reality and its ultimate manifestation. It’s not about what happens to us. It’s about how we respond to it.

Can you share any memorable experiences from your childhood or upbringing that have shaped your musical journey?

I have tons! But I clearly recall my father teaching old Hindi songs on our piano at home. I guess that’s where my love for music began. Then, I was appointed the school drummer for several years as part of our school band. And finally, when I found CDJs in my late teens, there was really no looking back.

Any upcoming releases or gigs?

Recently, I’ve been experimenting quite heavily. And that experimentation led to a track called Cande’s Bliss, which is soon to be released in the winter on my biggest signing yet: Be Adult Music. I’m stoked about this!
I’m also opening for Tomorrowland talent Mosoo in November at a massive venue here in Vancouver. Probably my biggest show yet! It’s being organized by Onyx Pulse, an incredible event organization company in Canada.
